The University Police Department is located on the west side of the Northwest campus, adjacent to Central Receiving, in the Support Services building. The Department consists of three divisions: University Police, Emergency Management and Communications. The Department employees state commissioned police officers, full-time dispatchers, and student employees.
Northwest's University Police Department has primary responsibility for all law enforcement, emergency management, and safety on campus. University Police works closely with outside law enforcement agencies to better serve the community.
University Police has adopted and is committed to a community policing philosophy in its daily operations. The University Police Department is staffed with officers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. University Police works closely with the University Health and Safety Manager, Residential Life Staff, University Seminar Office, Office of Student Affairs, other University offices, and student organizations on safety related issues.
Northwest is served by a 911 emergency phone system. All 911 calls made from a campus telephone go directly through University Police dispatching center. The dispatching center at University Police handles all 911 emergency and non-emergency incoming calls. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to report emergencies and criminal activity to the University Police Department at 660.562.1254.
The Safe Ride Home Program was implemented in spring 2004 and is managed by the University Police. The program employs approximately 30 Northwest students.
